Veganism & Animail Welfare

Veganism and animal welfare (or animals rights) seems to be the most common reason people choose the vegan lifestyle. That’s not to say that veganism and health, or veganism and the environment, aren’t important factors on the minds of vegans, but it’s the ethical commitment of not contributing to the cruelty of the factory farming industry that drives most to the vegan lifestyle. And as the history of veganism proves, together our support of animal rights groups can contribute significantly to the animal rights movement.

The horrors of factory farming run deep in this country, and around the world:

Seven egg-laying chickens spending their entire lives in a cage about the size of an 8 ½” by 11” sheet of paper

Diary cows that naturally live to about 25 years old being slaughtered at around 5 years old when their milk production declines

Veal calves taken from their mothers, tethered in stalls by themselves and deprived of food

Pregnant pigs confined to cages no bigger than the size of their bodies

Fortunately, contrary to popular belief, our health does not depend on a meat or dairy-based diet. The vegan food in a balanced vegan diet is, in fact, healthier than the alternative. It’s simply a matter of vegans seeking out vegan resources for the vegan information you need to make smart, informed decisions for animal welfare.
